Artist Statement

What is the quintessence of life? While there are many answers to this question, I believe it can be found in quiet meaningful moments. You may let these instances fade until they are all but a comforting warmth found in the scent of a home-cooked meal, the flicker of a candle, or the feeling of earth beneath your hands, but these wisps of nostalgia remain.​

Inspired by and paying homage to the fictional witches, personal relations, and travels of my youth, the story behind this project follows a woman's mundane rituals as the seasons ebb and flow. A man appears in some scenes, his face often obscured as his identity blurs in her mind. He remains, nonetheless, acting as a silent caretaker, patiently waiting for the fleeting moments where she puts the puzzle of their life back together and recognition flashes in her eyes once more.

Memory is a fickle thing. Sometimes it escapes even the sharpest of us who have lived the richest lives, but that does not mean we cannot enjoy these moments anymore. This collection highlights the importance of these little instances of peace in a life where sorrow threatens to dampen our spirits.

Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer.
